The services provided by the Harris County Public Health Health Services clinics are available to all Harris County residents, at no cost or a low cost. Our staff can help you determine your which grant funds or government programs will be the best fit for you. We do not turn anyone away.

What do I need to do?
  1. Make an Appointment:
    1. Call the clinic nearest you. Same day appointments are available.
  2. Gather Documents:
    1. Photo ID
    1. Proof of Income
    1. Proof of Government Benefits you Receive
  3. Appointment Day:
    1. Bring your documents with you to your appointment. A specialist will work with you to determine your eligibility for services, and the amount you will be required to pay. This process should take 20 - 25 minutes
  4. Quality Healthcare You Can Afford:
    1. After your eligibility interview is complete, meet with your new healthcare providers to discuss your healthcare needs!

What documentation should I bring to my appointment?

On your appointment day, be sure to bring:

  • Photo ID (Passport, Driver’s License, or State-issued ID)
  • Proof of Income
    • All Paystubs within the last 30 days
    • A letter from your employer if you are paid in cash
    • Texas Workforce Commission Proof of Unemployment letter
    • Proof of Child Support you receive
  • Proof of Government Assistance
    • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) eligibility letter
    • Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) shopping list or certification letter
    • Texas Women’s Health Program (TWHP) benefit card
    • Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) benefit card (for Dental Health services only)

If you currently receive SNAP or WIC benefits, you may automatically qualify for services at our Health and Wellness Clinics.

How is eligibility determined?

Eligibility criteria for most services are based on household size and family income. However, eligibility criteria differ depending on the services you are seeking. Please call the Patient Appointment Call Center at (713) 212-6800 to schedule an appointment. At your scheduled appointment, an eligibility specialist will help you determine if you are eligible for the services you need.

What happens if I am not eligible to receive services at Harris County Public Health clinics?

If you are not eligible to receive services at our clinics, we will gladly provide you with a referral to the appropriate provider.

How much will I have to pay?

Harris County Public Health offers clinical and preventive health services on a sliding fee scale. Co-pays are calculated based on household size and family income.
