Public health is now battling new challenges. Each year brings new diseases, new chronic disease risks, and more natural and man-made disasters.

HCPH shares local resources to support survivors of domestic violence

Harris County Public Health (HCPH) is joining communities nationwide to recognize Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) this month. This year’s national theme, “With Survivors, Always,” set by the Domestic Violence Awareness Project – a part of the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence – calls on communities to stand in solidarity with survivors, raise awareness, and take action to prevent violence.

Harris County Public Health announces the launch of its online dashboard to keep the community informed about human cases of mosquito-borne diseases reported this year in Harris County (outside the City of Houston). This resource provides daily updates on confirmed, probable, and travel-related cases of diseases such as West Nile virus, dengue, and other mosquito-related illnesses.

Lead exposure can cause serious harm to the brain, nervous system, and reproductive system. Young children are especially vulnerable to lead dust exposure through ingestion or inhalation. During National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week (NLPPW), held from Oct. 19-25, Harris County Public Health (HCPH) is raising awareness through two key programs: the Lead Poisoning Prevention Program and the Lead Abatement Program.
