  • Lost pet search:
    • You are welcome to visit our shelter during regular lobby hours.
    • Call us on weekdays at 281.999.3191 (when our call center is open) to provide a description of your animal and the address where your pet was located when it went missing.
    • View photos of animals in the shelter 24 hours a day / 7 days a week.  Photos are updated multiple times daily. 
    We highly recommend visiting the shelter immediately if you have lost your pet. 
  • License: 
    • A Harris County pet license can be purchased in person with proof of current rabies vaccination during regular lobby hours
    • To purchase a license by mail or online, refer to our License A Pet page.

Pet Wellness Clinic Services

The animal wellness services offered by the Veterinary Public Health division of Harris County Public Health  are a low-cost option for pet owners who may not have the resources to provide essential veterinary care for their furry loved ones.

Services are offered Monday – Friday from 1:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.  Appointments are required.

Call our facility at 281.999.3191 to make an appointment, or for any questions you may have. 
Phones cannot be answered on Saturday and Sunday. Our call center is closed.

Field Services

When fully staffed, the Veterinary Public Health (VPH) division of Harris County Public Health  has 16 professional animal control officers to respond to various animal related requests for service including:

For complaints inside an incorporated city or outside of Harris County, please refer to the list of Harris County Area Animal Control Agencies.

For Dead Animal Pickup:

  • If the animal is located in the City of Houston on a curb or a maintained street, call 3-1-1 or go to the City of Houston Dead Animal Collection information page
  • If the animal is located on freeways and feeder roads, submit a request to TxDOT. For the Contact Reason, select the drop down: "Road debris/litter/dead animal" or call TXDOT directly at 713.802.5000. Select Option 1.

In unincorporated Harris County (outside the City of Houston), call the County Operator at 713.755.5000.
